| Game # 44 | Lindsay Muskies 4 - Cobourg Cougars 3 |
| January 28th, 2008 - in Cobourg | |
| Summary | |
| The Muskies are now knocking on the door of the playoffs after this come-from-behind win in Cobourg. Again the win came the hard way. They took an early lead when Cam Granger beat Troy Webster at 3:36, with Aaron Keaney and Shayne Taylor assisting. But the rest of the period belonged to the Cougars as they scored three times without reply. The scorers were Kevin Balas on a powerplay at 7:55 (who was recently acquired from the Pack in a trade), Mathew Singleton at 13:55 and Jeff Broekema at 19:12, also on a powerplay.
The Fish spent the rest of the game chipping away at the lead. One goal came in the second period, at 16:30, and it was another powerplay marker. Mike Wills and Ryan Oliver set up the play and Alex Fiset finished it off. But that still left the Muskies trailing after two periods. But Lindsay has been much more resilient since the Christmas break and whereas in the past they rarely were able to come back in the final period for the win, this time they did just that. They leveled the score at 2:28 when it was Jordon Sinclair's turn to beat Webster, assisted by Alex Charette and Mitch Vasey. It was the Lindsay #14's third goal of the season, and his first since the middle of October - and this was the perfect time to break the drought. The comeback was completed with just 3:33 remaining in the game when Alex Charette struck with only six seconds remaining in the Cobourg penalty. The goal was assisted by Mike Wills and Aaron Keaney. That gave the Muskies the lead back, but it certainly wasn't plain sailing to the buzzer. They spent the entire final 2 minutes and 55 seconds on the penalty kill, including a dangerous 13 second spell of two man advantage for the Cougars. But the team hung on for a huge two points. If the Quinte West Pack fail to pick up any points in Kingston on Thursday, the Muskies would travel to Trenton on Friday knowing that any kind of a win would put an end to the race for the sixth and final playoff spot. |
