| Game # 14 | Lindsay Muskies 5 - Cobourg Cougars 6 (Overtime) |
| October 22nd, 2007 in Cobourg | |
| Summary | |
| The Muskies have now picked up points in four consecutive games but they will be disappointed with this result. They visited the last-placed Cougars and seemed set for a victory as they held a two goal lead with less than four minutes remaining. But two quick goals pulled Cobourg level and then they found a way to win it in overtime. Cam Granger kept up his good recent form with his second two-goal game in a row, with Corey George, Kyle Stojsin and Ryan Oliver recording the others. Richard Nerland saved 46 of 51 shots sent his way. In eleven days time, the Muskies start a stretch of three consecutive games against the Cougars and will no doubt be looking for better results. | |
| Period 1 | |
| The first period was broken up by a regular stream of players from both teams heading for the penalty box but only the Cougars were able to make anything of the man advantage. That came at 18:28 when Kyle Cresswell scored for the home team who had been leading since a Nik Walsh goal at 5:36. With twenty minutes gone, the Fish were down by two goals in a rink where visiting teams often find it difficult to play. | |
| Period 2 | |
| The Fish coaching staff must have ironed things out in the first intermission, though, as the Muskies came right back at their hosts. The penalties still came regularly and the Lindsay powerplay still failed to beat Dan Clarke in the Cobourg net, but they did find three ways to score five on five. Just 61 seconds in captain Corey George opened the Muskies account, assisted by Chad Jones and Derek Davis. Next up was Kyle Stojsin, with George this time turning provider. The Fish finished the period leading 3-2 after Cam Granger scored at 15:46, with Derek Davis getting his second assist and Mike Wills his first. | |
| Period 3 | |
| Things didn't go according to plan in the third period. Jeff Broekma equalized for Cobourg after only 31 seconds, which wasn't what the doctor ordered. However the Muskies did respond well with two more of their own to build up a solid-looking 5-3 lead. Cam Granger scored his second of the game at 7:49, assisted by the George brothers and then Ryan Oliver doubled the lead at 9:09. They held on to that lead for more than seven of the remaining eleven minutes and seemed to be heading for victory but then they allowed the Cougars to reply with two of their own just 22 seconds apart. It was Cobourg captain Patrick Jobb who did the damage at 16:38 and then he set up Matt Diminie to tie the game at 17:00. There was no further scoring before the end of the period and so both teams had a point - it was just a case of who would get the extra one. | |
| Overtime | |
| As it turned out, the Muskies didn't even manage a shot on goal in the extra frame. Things looked bad for them after 1:43 when Ryan Oliver got called for Checking From Behind but the Muskies killed off the first 68 seconds of the penalty and then Cobourg picked up one of their own for Too Many Men. With both teams reduced to three skaters, it was once again Cougars captain Patrick Jobb who found the net. He ended the game at 3:23 when he got the puck past Richard Nerland in the Lindsay net. | |
