Game # 11
Lindsay Muskies 6 - Quinte West Pack 4
October 14th, 2007 in Trenton
Summary
The Muskies got back to winnings ways with a 6-4 victory in Trenton this evening. The Fish never trailed during the game but were pegged back three different times before finally finishing off the pesky Pack. Matt Ginn played between the pipes for Lindsay and got the win. The scorers for the club tonight were Kyle Stojsin and Cam Granger (with two each), Ryan Oliver and Kevin George. Stojsin added a pair of assists for a four point game, while Josh Ruys chipped in with a hat trick of helpers.
Period 1
The two teams shared five goals in the first period. The Muskies struck first on a powerplay at 3:57. Some neat play by Aaron Keaney saw his effort reach Kyle Stojsin at the side of the goal. A quick kick of the skate brought the puck in front of the goal and then a flick of the wrist put it in the back of the net. Alex Charette got the other assist. The Pack tied things up with a goal from nowhere. They hadn't been causing the Muskies any real problems but then a quick shot from out wide on the blue line found a hole between Matt Ginn and two players jostling for position in front of him. The young Lindsay goaltender may not even have seen the puck until it was in. The lead was soon restored, however, when a shot from Josh Ruys went over the net and saw Kyle Stojsin recover the puck. He sent it back out to Cam Granger and he put it in the roof of the net. Ryan Oliver made it 3-1 at 16:26 with a nice shot that kept down on the ice and was perfectly placed in the far corner beyond Shawn Sirman in the Quinte West net. Assists went to Derek Davis and Kevin George. A late powerplay goal from Henderson Robinson at 18:40 brought the Pack back within one at the first intermission but the Muskies deserved their lead.
Period 2
The Fish had some great chances to increase their lead early in the second but just couldn't find the back of the net. Perhaps Sirman's finest stop of the night came when he had to flash out a toe to deflect out a wayward redirect from his own defenceman. Soon after came a lengthy stoppage when referee Sean Jenkins took a nasty fall and had to be helped from the ice. When the game restarted, linesman Sloboda had assumed the red armbands and the game went on with two officials. The first penalty the new ref had to call cost the Muskies another powerplay goal against, with Adam McAllister getting it at 8:45, tying the game at 3-3. The Fish came right back again and Kyle Stojsin made it 4-3 at 12:47 with a neat finish to a perfect pass from Josh Ruys. Mike Taché got the other assist. Mitch Vasey had two good chances to score by getting into good positions but just missed on both occasions. The Pack levelled things yet again at 15:30 when Jacob Doseger steered a shot just past Matt Ginn's outstretched pad, but Lindsay would finish the period in front when Kevin George just got to a Ryan Oliver pass before goalie Sirman and he slid it under the tender. Derek Davis also picked up an assist on the play The game was certainly there to be won by the Fish but they knew they had to keep five skaters on the ice in the third if they were to prevail.
Period 3
Prevail they did. Neither team could keep out of the penalty box entirely, each taking two minors. The difference was the Muskies seemed to have finally worked out the Pack's powerplay and denied them any further goals. The Fish, on the other hand were able to convert one of their two opportunities to add the insurance they needed. The goal came at 8:41 and was put in by Cam Granger, who was on the end of some nice passes from Josh Ruys and Kyle Stojsin. The Muskies continued to look good going forward; however the Pack caused a few hearts to flutter in the final minutes, but Matt Ginn made the saves when he had to. Quinte West had a great chance to close the gap with a last minute breakaway but the shot went high and from there on in it was the Muskies who came closest to scoring on the Pack's empty net.
